what was your "back burner?"

when i was studying in the truth book i laid aside quite a few questions, feeling that i was learning something important, and that those "nagging questions" would be answered in due course.

most of those questions have gone unanswered because i was led along, like a stupid pig with a ring in his nose, by other pseudo-questions of, really, non-importance.

i've had problems with conforming, if that is the word, with "correct speak" in the organization, and it has been apparant to most of the people i've known over the years.

The 'fact' that my 'worldly' father and sister would be killed at Armageddon deeply troubled me.

ANONY MOUS - Why god allows suffering also bothered me, but I relieved my cognitive dissonance with the society's 'reasoning'....

...until about 6 years ago when I got sick and suffered as no human being should.

The question went from Why? to HOW could god allow suffering? The thought of HOW an all powerful creator could allow suffering really pissed me off. I mean...

If YOU saw YOUR CHILD suffering and YOU HAD THE MEANS TO RELIEVE THEIR SUFFERING,WHAT WOULD YOU DO, YOU MERE MORTAL HUMAN?

I guess now you know one of the reasons I'm here....

More on Saturday's drama: Endo-symbiotic theory mentioned not once but twice

i don't want to give a full synopsis of saturday's drama, for fear of inducing stupor among this thread's readers, but.... .

the drama deals with a jw family with 3 kids, 2 of whom are in various stages of rebellion against all things jw.. the older brother is one of the "rebels", while the younger brother is a thoroughly annoying piece of brown-nosing crapola, completely buying into the jw mindset.. anyways, the younger brother is asking the older brother about why he doesn't want to attend the family study any more.. the older kid's rambling answer touches on something along the lines of "i'm learning things in school about how life really came here.

it's not as simple as you think!".

Ugh!!! I'm sorry I saw this thread. This part of the drama really hit a nerve with me!!!

As to be expected, the society is getting laughs at the expense of science... "...endo-symbiotic theory, ha ha ha, look at the silly, big words worldly scientists use to explain the natural world, ha ha ha. We just say, 'Jehovah did it!' Ta-da!"

At the same time, the people who penned this script don't have any problem accepting the life- saving/extending technology developed by scientists who seem to think 'endo-symbiotic theory' is nothing to scoff at.

Losers.

i had not been to meetings in a long time, but i still had lingering guilt over what happens if the big a comes when i am out.

i found this video on youtube, which put the first nail in the coffin for the wt.

the posters on this site put in the final 32 nails and put the wt in hades for me.

I hate JW jargon!!! (Alternatives please!)

all of us who have any ties to the jws know that they have their own vernacular, their own slang.

sure, there are formal titles that we can't really get away from: pioneer, ministerial servant, elder, ______ overseer, governing body, the (watchtower) society, etc.

but there are plenty of other bits of parlance they use that i can do without.... for example:.

the older i get, the more i see that the collective intelligence of people isn't too high.

i lump myself in on that.. when i first left, i was so conflicted.

do i try to help others by bringing down the wtbts?

JEFF - about 20 years ago, when I was in my 20's, there was a 'major situation' in out congregation the ultimately pitted me and a few others against the elder body, the arrogant asshole of a bethel PO, and the CO. Without going into any details, I was told that if I didn't basically shut up about it, I would be causing divisions and that was grounds for disfellowshipping. I was practically apostate back then!

Ultimately, the matter was cleared up when someone wrote the GB for clarification. But all that time I thought This is Jehovah testing me, these brothers are imperfect, I must stick with it! Talk about idiotic.

Learned a few years later that one of the elders involved in the whole thing was on the verge of a nervous breakdown over it and was about ready to bail himself.

So here we are 20 years later and I only figured out the whole thing is bullshit last year. I guess I've got a steeper learning curve than you.

Kinesiology

oh gosh, i could be opening up a can of worms with this one, but.. what the hell!.

it seems to me that there is a disproportionate amount of jws who are involved in kinesiology or hk (health kinesiology).

i mean, if i asked the average guy or gal where i worked if putting a crystal on your bellybutton, moving your arm up and down and charging $100 to cure your ills made any sense they would say, hell no!.

TERRY - at least around these parts, they refer to it as HK or 'Health Kinesiology' - not at all the type of Kinesiology you would study in college.

What's the thinking behind calling yourself 'Apostate'?

seems to me that we're playing into the society's hands here.. 'apostate' is the most evil and vile word for jw's.

i suspect it's even more of a terrifying trigger word than 'satan' or "demons", for them.. the society gives us that label which they have negatively loaded in order to make it impossible for jw's to hear us or have anything to do with us.

the word is associated with other words like "poison" and "toxic", "disease" and "filth".. so what sense does it make to use it and allow the society to have it's way?.

To be honest, just about a year ago or so, I thought that if I looked at anything APOSTATE my eyes would roll into the back of by head and Satan himself would overcome me. THIS LANGUAGE IS SOOOOOO LOADED I think you can't even equate it with the use of 'gay','queer' or 'niggas' for that matter. They have done a PHENOMENAL job of demonizing ex members with this term. It is actually genius (in a twisted way)

So my wife was reading how BOM got all these Tony awards and I said Have you heard any of the songs? I found the opening number "Hello!" on YouTube and played it for her... I would describe her reaction as cautiously amused. What was going thru her mind? Not sure, but I think it got her THINKING.

Do you think 'Book of Mormon' could have any effect on ones still in?

FOUND SHEEP - I think that the 'something' about kinesiology that helps is also known as the 'placebo effect' which is REAL! As far as the magnetic waves etc.... a bunch of crap.

We have to remember, our human brains LOVE FINDING PATTERNS--- Daniel's prophecy=> day for a year=> 1914!; My SIL puts a crystal in my bellybutton and asks 'my body' questions=> good night's sleep=> oh gosh! A miracle cure!

As far as natural healing goes, a good diet is about the best you can do for yourself.
